PlayStation 4 Pro Receives Boost Mode with New Gameplay Improvements - Sony has released a beta preview of PS4’s new firmware update. The new version 4.50 comes with a new feature that the owners of the PS4 Pro console will find useful, and which will allow PS4 games to run better on the new console. Thanks to the “Boost Mode” option that will be placed in the settings menu, PS4 titles that haven’t been optimized by their developers will have a great performance on the Pro console.
After installing the new software, Boost Mode will let “PS4 Pro run at a higher GPU and CPU clock speed in order to improve gameplay on some PS4 games that were released before the launch of PS4 Pro,” according to company spokesperson that was interviewed by The Verge. He also said that “games that have a variable frame rate may benefit from a higher frame rate, and load times may be shorter in some games too.”
The company hasn’t promised that all titles will benefit from these traits, but at least the new option will help PS4 Pro owners get the best out of their console. They will most likely return to old games they forgot about, but it’s not guaranteed that Boost Might will not cause any problems when the console will run at full speed. If there will be any glitches, or the PS4 Pro will get hot, gamers are advised to turn off the setting.
Boost Mode isn’t the only addition in the upcoming 4.50 firmware update. Sony will bring support for external hard drives, an option that has been requested since 2013, when the PS4 was launched. Because digital downloads, updates and DLC take up a lot of storage space, support for external hard drives is a solution to this problem. Recently, Sony just announced external HDD support for the PS4. “Struggling to find space for all the games you want to play? Well worry no more; you can now connect a USB 3.0 external HDD and download, save and install games, apps and add-ons directly onto your removable HDD”, Sony wrote on its website.
In addition, the new firmware will also allow players to watch 3D Blu-rays in PSVR.
